Financial reward has differential effects on behavioural and self-report measures of listening effort

Objectives To investigate the effects of listening demands and motivation on effort (LE) in a novel speech recognition task.Design We manipulated using vocoded financial reward, respectively, measured task performance (correct response rate) indices LE (response times (RTs), subjective ratings likelihood giving up). Effects inter-individual differences cognitive skills personality were also assessed within context Cognitive Energetics Theory (CET).Study sample Twenty-four participants with normal-hearing (age range: 19 − 33 years, 6 male).Results High decreased correct rate increased RTs, self-rated up. reward only.
